A simple wrap-and-tie obi-style belt, beautifully upcycled from the lining of a vintage Japanese obi.

There’s a Japanese word I love — “mottainai” — which means “what a waste” or “too precious to throw away.”
It reflects the idea of showing respect for materials and giving them new life instead of letting them go to waste.

The lining of this obi was simply too beautiful to waste — so I decided to turn it into this reversible wrap belt.
The gold fabric features kanji characters symbolising good fortune, adding a special touch of Japanese meaning to your outfit.

Although the original obi wasn’t reversible, this belt is carefully made from two layers of fabric for a strong, high-quality finish. After using the outer fabric for a hoodie design, I upcycled the lining to create something equally special.

Just thread the ties through the loops, wrap it around, and you’re ready to go.
Every part — even the ties — is made from the upcycled lining fabric.

Perfect as a statement accessory for a kimono, dress, or even everyday outfits.
A truly unique handmade piece that carries Japanese elegance, the spirit of mottainai, and a touch of good luck.
