A one-of-one piece handmade by Groovy Japanese Boutique using an authentic vintage Japanese silk haori.

This piece features the exact same GROOVY REWORKED black-and-gold design as the haori worn on stage by Skin of Skunk Anansie.

The design, silhouette and signature three metallic gold sleeve stripes are the same. The only difference is the original vintage Japanese haori used to create it.

As each piece is individually handmade from a different vintage garment, every one has its own unique fabric, pattern and history. No two are ever exactly alike.

The deep black silk features an exquisite tonal Japanese floral pattern, with delicate clusters of blossoms and foliage subtly woven throughout the fabric.

The intricate black-on-black motifs reveal themselves gently as the light moves across the silk, creating a beautiful interplay of texture, depth and understated elegance. The scattered floral designs bring a quiet, refined beauty to the dramatic black fabric, reflecting the timeless artistry of traditional Japanese textiles.

A delicate ivory Japanese mon (family crest), featuring a beautifully stylised five-petalled blossom, adorns the upper back. Its elegant floral design creates a subtle yet striking contrast against the dark silk, celebrating the heritage and traditional identity of the original garment.

Three metallic gold stripes have been added along the sleeves, bringing a bold contemporary edge to the traditional silhouette. These signature stripes are the defining feature of the GROOVY REWORKED design worn by Skin, creating a distinctive fusion of Japanese elegance and rock ‘n’ roll attitude.

Inside, the soft ivory silk lining features an elegant arrangement of traditional Japanese circular floral and geometric motifs. Delicate chrysanthemum-inspired rosettes and intricate wheel-like patterns repeat gracefully across the pale fabric, creating a harmonious composition of understated beauty. The softly shimmering tonal design provides a refined contrast to the dramatic black exterior, revealing another layer of Japanese textile craftsmanship.
