Rework handmade vintage haori Jacket

Why do I upcycle kimonos?

Kimono is such a beautiful part of Japanese tradition, yet people in Japan rarely wear them anymore — and around 500 tonnes are thrown away every year.

If they’re going to be thrown away, I’d rather cut them, stitch them, make them funky and give them a whole new life — then send them back out into the world to be loved again.

That’s why I do what I do.

For this piece, I used a beautiful vintage purple shibori haori.
Shibori, an ancient Japanese dyeing technique, creates unique patterns through a series of twists, folds, and stitches. This particular design, with its vibrant red butterflies, symbolizes transformation, freedom, and the beauty of nature. The butterflies, often seen as messengers of change, give the piece an air of elegance and mystery.

Please note: There is a small stain on the sleeve.
