This is a handmade organic cotton hoodie upcycled from a 4.5-metre Fukuro obi (Japanese traditional sash).
Woven from the pages of The Tale of Genji — a one-off piece echoing the romance and elegance of ancient Japan.
The Tale of Genji is often called the world’s first novel. Written over a thousand years ago by a woman named Murasaki Shikibu, it tells the story of a charming and sensitive prince navigating love, politics, and court life in ancient Japan.
At its heart, it’s a story about love, beauty, and the passing of time. Genji, the main character, has many romantic relationships, but each one reflects something deeper—like the rules of society, the role of women, and the bittersweet nature of life.
What makes this story so timeless is how relatable it still feels. It’s full of longing, unspoken emotions, and fleeting moments, wrapped in the elegance of Japanese court culture, where a short poem or the color of someone’s robe could express everything.
