Why Are Vintage Japanese Textiles So Special?

One of the things I love most about working with vintage Japanese textiles is that no two pieces ever feel quite the same.

The colours, patterns and textures can be completely different, and sometimes even a small piece of fabric has so much character.

When I find an old kimono or obi, I often start thinking about what it could become rather than seeing it as something that has reached the end of its life.

That’s why I enjoy using these fabrics in our reworked pieces. A section of vintage kimono that might otherwise stay hidden away can become part of a T-shirt, hoodie or jacket and be worn again in a completely different way.

For me, that mix of old Japanese textiles and modern everyday clothing is what makes each piece interesting.
