Today I finished a custom order for one of our obi hoodies. This time, the piece was made for a fellow trader from St Nicholas Market. She chose a particularly auspicious obi that had originally been made for a wedding, carrying a sense of celebration and good fortune.
This fabric has been especially popular, and this was the very last of it. A fine gold line woven through the pattern marks it as something a little special — a quiet detail that won’t appear again.
Working with materials like this is always a reminder of how much history and meaning can be held within a single piece of cloth. Turning it into something new, while respecting what it once was, is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
