Oiwa is betrayed by her husband, Iemon, who wishes to abandon her for another woman. After being poisoned and horribly disfigured, she dies — only to return as an \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eonryō\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, a vengeful spirit whose presence continues to torment those responsible for her suffering.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFor this collaboration, Tokyo-based tattoo artist \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHoriyuki\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e reinterprets Oiwa through the visual language of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWabori (和彫り)\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e — traditional Japanese tattooing.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWabori developed from Japan’s long tradition of ukiyo-e and woodblock imagery, with large, flowing compositions depicting figures from folklore, kabuki, mythology and the supernatural.
